Gubi was founded in Copenhagen in 1967 by Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen and has grown into one of the most influential Scandinavian design houses of our time. Its identity is built on a distinctive dual approach: reviving forgotten masterpieces of twentieth-century design, and commissioning new work from leading contemporary designers. The result is a catalogue that feels both encyclopaedic and unmistakably modern.

The revival programme is the heart of the brand. Gubi has reissued pieces by Greta M. Grossman — including the Grasshopper floor lamp — as well as designers such as Mathieu Matégot and Pierre Paulin, and the British Bestlite by Robert Dudley Best, a lamp famously associated with Winston Churchill's study. The Beetle chair by GamFratesi, launched in 2013, has become a modern classic in its own right.

Alongside the archive, Gubi works with contemporary studios such as Space Copenhagen and Sebastian Herkner, producing lounge and dining chairs, sofas, tables, lighting, mirrors and a growing outdoor range with Danish rigour.

Visually, Gubi is warm, playful and colourful in a way that sets it apart from more austere Nordic brands: velvets and bouclé, lacquered curves, brass and marble — a sensual reading of Scandinavian design that looks back to the 1950s rather than to 1990s minimalism.

For architects and clients looking for characterful modernism with an authentic design lineage — pieces that suit a 1930s villa as well as a new penthouse — Gubi offers one of the most coherent and beautifully made catalogues in contemporary design. Find Gubi at Moda Bagno – Interni.
